  • The FIA’s United Against Online Abuse campaign, supported by the FIA Foundation, has launched a student-athlete survey in collaboration with the University of Notre Dame, a leading American university.
  • Student-athletes will contribute their views and experiences to assess the prevalence, nature and impact of online abuse in college sports.
  • The survey forms part of the campaign’s multi-year collaboration with the university’s Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society.

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation for mobility organisations worldwide, in collaboration with the University of Notre Dame’s Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society, is launching a student-athlete survey that will assess the prevalence, nature and impact of online abuse in college sports and help inform an action plan and future resources to tackle the growing threat.

Research shows that thousands of student-athletes in the United States are being harassed on social media [GOALS Study 2025, NCAA]. With the support of Notre Dame’s Athletic Department, the survey seeks the views and experiences with online abuse of student-athletes across all college sports and divisions. The insights obtained from the survey will form a central part of United Against Online Abuse (UAOA)’s multi-year research collaboration with the Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society, which aims to address the growing challenge of online abuse in global sport.

Notre Dame signed the UAOA Charter and joined the global coalition in September 2025 which, through digital literacy projects, surveys and policy research, will help shape practical policy considerations for creating safer online spaces across the global sporting community.

The short survey can be completed by current and former college student-athletes by clicking here. All answers will remain anonymous.
