About Us

The United Against Online Abuse (UAOA) campaign was founded in 2022 by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem in response to the growing crisis of online abuse across the sporting world.

Following the 2022 US Grand Prix, an FIA Steward was subjected to horrific online abuse and harassment. In response, the FIA adopted a leadership role and launched a collaborative campaign that unites the sporting, political and regulatory sectors against the rising levels of online abuse and hate speech impacting various sports across the world. United Against Online Abuse has since convened a global coalition dedicated to fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive online environment for athletes, officials, journalists, fans, and everyone involved in sport.

Guided by the central campaign pillars of Stronger Together, Evidence Led and Committed to Action, UAOA was founded on a belief that effectively tackling the scourge of online abuse across sports can only be achieved through collaborative, cross-sector working that drives measurable change through research, education, and policy development. Through its research and convening endeavours, UAOA strives to set new standards in understanding the prevalence, impact, and mitigation of online abuse in sport.

By standing together, UAOA and its partners are dedicated to creating an online environment where sport can be celebrated as a positive, inclusive and empowering force for good.
